Hello everyone,

How to find out as to which fields are madatory in an idoc. I know there is a TCode BD65 which shows the mandatory fields for Messge type (DEBMAS, CREMAS), but it isn't showing the basic type i require (DESADV.

Please help.

Hi Run WE62 transaction and give your message type.

there you can find a button display documentation.

click on that and you can see the Html documentation of the segements and subsegments..

I already tried that but with no use. It gives segment mandatory/optional but not the fileds in that segment.

A field being mandatory or not depends on the business scenario where you are using the IDOC.

For e.g., ORDERS05 is used for both Inbound Sales orders from customers and Outbound Purchase orders to suppliers. While you receive inbound sales orders, fields like Order type, Sales Org. etc may be mandatory but in the case of outbound purchase order, it may not be of any interest to the vendor. Moreover, many segment carry fields with qualifiers (e.g. E1EDK14) which contain field values based on the qualifier value.

Again, a field being mandatory or not is governed by the underlying appliation and not the IDOC type itself.

In real scenario, you may stumble across errors stating a field is mandatory but again if that is required by the underlying application component, you would know how to fill the same.

Thanks KK for the explainaion. But will it not possible to now the fields in particular idoc which are mandatory. For Eg TCode bd65 lists mandatory filed in some mssg ytpes like cremas, debmas. In similar fasion cant we know the minimum required mandatory fields for inbound/outbound.

Hi,

i didn't find about defining the mandatory options for idoc fields in segments.

These(idoc field mandatories) are depends on message types and process codes that attached with idoc types.

Use We64 transaction, and check in function modules whether any validation mentioned at idoc field level.

I hope this idoc field mandatory are validating either at function module level or application processisng level while calling transactions for postings.
