Dear Sir,

For applying the OSS Note , by going thru I came to know about following 2 approaches :

a) Using SNOTE Tcode

b) Download the note as .car file and uncar it and then put the generated files in /usr/sap/trans/data , /usr/sap/trans/cofile directory . Then run the Tcode SPAM and STMS .

Sir, my query is that betweenthe option a) and b) what is the fundamental difference . Which option must be exercised and the benefit of that over the other option .

Kindly guide me on the above issue please .

With Thanks and Regards

Hi Mittal,

For applying SAP note you need to do the following.

1. Thru SNOTE transaction in your ABAP stack you need to download the note.

2. For some notes we need to do the manual modifications. Among that comes making the function module remote. For this you need to get the access key from http://service.sap.com and then modify the same. These kind of manual instructions will be mentioned in the note. Before installing any note you should carefully read it eventhough it can be reverted.

3. Some notes there wont be any manual intervention. In those cases the notes once downloaded through SNOTE can be executed and the relevant changes will be updated.

4. Once you download the notes thru SNOTE transaction you can identify whether the note downloaded can be used or not. This you can identify based on the kind of icon displayed and each icon is explained in the legend button.

Over and above all the changes must be saved in a ABAP request and once the note changes are confirmed as working for the requirement w/o hampering the already funcioning ones we can transport the same to different systems by transporting the transport request...

Hi mittal,

sorry did not read ur question properly

here is the answer to your query

1. How do we find out what version of Support package iscurrently installed on our system. ( e.g what command or transaction provides this info).

Go to Txn SPAM --> Click on Package Level --> Check the level against SAP_BASIS or SAP_ABA

2. How do we find the latest support pack available from SAP?

http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks --> SP Stack Information

3. Do we have to apply support pack to each component or to each module e.t.c

( Any command or tranaction....)

There will be support packs for each component like SAP_BASIS,SAP_ABA,SAP_BW .. etc and you can apply them through SPAM.

4. What is a differnce between SAP kernel support pack and SAP Note.

Kernels are central program that are required to run SAP system and these programs reside in OS level.Kernel support pack means correction to these cental programs .There is no transaction for this. You can replace the existing files with the new one ( in simple words ) . SAP note means correction to SAP programs , more than one SAP note is called a Support pack and Note can be implemented using SNOTE and Support packs using SPAM

5. Is it requirement to apply support package from SAP solutaion manager or can also be applied throught transaction

Now you need Solution Manager to download Support packs from SMP.You can apply SPs in the target system without using Solman.

Hello,

The option 2 is wrong. This procedure is not for Notes. This is for Support Packages and the transaction is SPAM.

But you can still download the Notes from SMP, and Upload it in transaction SNOTE. There's no cofiles or data files for Notes.

Best Regards,

Joseph
