Here header record will tell you the <b>order number</b>; <b>customer details</b>; <b>Business area/division</b>.
And the item records will tell you the different items customer has ordered: <b>Material/item code</b> ; <b>Quantity</b> ; <b>Price</b> ; <b>Delivery date</b>, etc
Similarly header and item tables are used in many different scenarios.
Header table contains information that is common to all the line item of a document where as item table contains information specific to an item of a docuemnt.e.g. consider a sales order , the person to whom the product was sold , when was it sold , which SO did the sales are all common to all the items sold , so they are stored in the header table , where as the material sold , quantity , at what price and similar stuff is specific to an item of the sales order , so they are stored in the item table.
