Hi, please understand that you not only need a certain version of SAPgui, but your application server must be at a certain level as well. For example the new editor was delivered with NetWeaver 2004, so if you are on ERP 2004, then you have it, just turn it on. If you are on R/3 4.7, the new editor has been backported to a certain SP level, so you will need the 6.40 gui and your R/3 4.7 system will need to be up to date as far as SP levels are concerned.

Simply appling a gui patch may not help you. Depending on the system that you are working with.

You can download the gui patches from service.sap.com

The editor is there on that release, it is Netweaver 2004. So all you need to do is turn it on. Go to SE80, Click Utitlites, Settings. Now click the ABAP Editor Tab. Select the radiobutton for "Frontend Editor -New".

Hi Rich,

When i go to Utilities -> Settings-> tab ABAP Editor i don't see any option for Frontend Editor -New.

All i see is Fron-end-Editor and Back-End-Editor.

I just checked with a colleague and he mentioned that it was backported to Netweaver 2004 also, but you must be at at least SP 18. This is why you don't see it.

Looks like you need to be at SP 59 for 6.20(R/3 4.7 )

Like I stated above, your basis SP level must be at or above 18.

You mentioned that you are at 15, you need to be at 18.

Hi Rich,

Thanks and apologies for the delayed response.

I have activated the settings in the editor to the front end editor as you have suggested the problem now is i am getting a DUMP when i goto se38 and display , change or create any program. Basically from SE38 transactrion i can only execute the program but i cannot display or change or create any program. If i remove the NEW FRONT END EDITOR settings then all is fine i am not getting any DUMP. The moment i enable the new front end editor i am getting the DUMP.

Any pointers whats wrong? Appreciate your help on the same.

Cheers

Sounds like you do not have the correct version of the SAPgui. Make sure that you are on at least SAPgui 6.40, and have the latest SP level, I think it is up to SP 24. You can dowload from service.sap.com.

You could also go to SAPgui 7.10, but it is not required.
