Meta description is a rather unusual term, normally it´s meta-data.

Anyway, what meta in this conclusion means is that it´s not real data, like you store it in a database or a variable, but it´s the things describing the real data.

e.G. The definition/deklaration of a variable is a meta description for the real data it can contain later.
