Doubt on IDOCS

Hi Experts,

I have small doubt on IDOCs plz clarify it,

1.when an IDOC is posted it directly goes and updated in the target system database or any external operation should be done?

when u send an idoc from oubound system i.e sender system it will go to inbound system i.e reciever system and ther u have write the logic to get the data from inbound idoc and then use call transaction on bdc to update the data in to data base.
