you can adopt many techniques. but as it is master data upload, i would also aggree that you should use LSMW, which will make your life simple.

the likely problems you are supposed to face are

1. special character conversion problem, which are not in compliance with your codepage.

2. source structure and target file are not compatible.

3. data indentation error.

so on.

but what is your concern over here? can you be bit specific?
