Data Migration, BOM 'Valid to'

Hello out there...

I´ve got quite a problem...

I´m migrating data from a third system into SAP (using IDocs)... So far everything´s great!

Unfortunately my client has got a lot of 'old' components in his BOMs that are no longer valid...

They HAVE TO BE CREATED in SAP because of a spare parts issue...

Normally the 'valid to'-Date is generated by the Change N° (the collumn next to it in CS03)...

As soon as one changes a BOM using the SAP Change Service, a Change N° and validity date are created...

But my BOMs are OLD, I´m migrating them, not creating them... I´ve got different components with different validity periods... now what do I do???

PS: I´m not going to create BOM-Alternatives, that doesn´t suit my client....

Anybody have an idea?

Thanx a lot!

Hi Pieter!

Do you use BAPI_MATERIAL_BOM_GROUP_CREATE? (Can you use?)

In documentation is said:

"In extreme case, the entire BOM group can be transferred, that means

- All variants of a variant BOM or alternatives of a multiple BOM

- The entire history

- All material assignments

- All items

- All subitems

This enables the data to be transferred from the non-SAP system in one step."

Sounds like an exact match for your problem - or do we talk about different objects?

Regards,

Christian

I didn´t think about the BAPI-ability to create BOMs!

Have fun on Friday-evening!
