Carving out select data when creating a new client

My customer is currently going through a divestiture and is selling off a business unit. The customer wants to create a new client on the same production instance of SAP. The direction given was to perform a configuration only client copy from the source client and then extract and load the relevent master and transactional data into the new client. The customer is running 3 different R/3 systems globally with 1 being 4.6c and the other 2 are 3.1h systems.

I would like to know if anyone has done something like this and how they exported and loaded the data. Are there good proven tools that you used? I was looking at the SAP Test Data Migration Server (TDMS) but this is to create non-production systems from production and I don't think it would work with the older releases.

How do you tell if you have identified all of the necessary master data and transactional data to export and load?

Thanks in Advance.

This seems to me as large a project as setting up a new sap system. In effect, that's what's being done. Perhaps someone in senior management thinks this is going to be a simple thing... What are they going to do with the divested company's data on the source system? Get some data migration specialists in. It might even be worth upgrading first. ( On the principle that if you're going there, don't start from here ).

Careful analysis.

How much data, and which modules are you talking about?

The 4.6c the divested Business unit is using MM, PP, FI, and CO that I know of. I have also been told that the system has terabytes of data
