Can use IDES version for ABAP development environment

I have gotten a problem...

I just begin study and work in ABAP field.

Our customer ask us for building a development environment in my office.

But I do not know that what is a proper SAP version for ABAP development environment ?

I have had an IDES (International Demonstration and Education System). But I don't know I can use this one for development ???

Please advise me !!!

If you just want to develop applications to learn ABAP, then I would suggest that you download the sneak preview addition of WAS 6.40. It is a complete development environment and will let you test out the technology.

Dowload the ABAP Edition.

It is a REAL ABAP environment. Do you mean that you want a permanent solution licensed environment?
