Don't even think about it...create customizing append to necessary table, adding field ZZTXZ01 with your proper data element and domain, or create long text. Anytime a user wants a SAP Standard field/data element/domain changed, it's time to wave a red flag...never a good outcome from doing this, IMHO.
hi
why cant we add fields to standard table using structure, actually structure is to add frields to the existing standard table
can oyu please clarify me

Hi,
I think we should not change a data element to increase length, it contains risk that we cannot control.
When making changes to existing data elements, keep in mind that any number of dependent objects may be affected. You can find out what effect a change has by choosing Utilities -> Where-used list.

Hi,
You canot modify the lengh of the data element..and its not desirable.. even if you chnage it.. it will affect in all the objects where this data element used.

Hello,
I think we can make use of some other data element for material description with length 120 (or create a new data element of length 120) , instead of making changes to the existing one txz01. As it can affect the other places where this data element is being used.
Hope this helps you!

Adding fields to standard table is not recommended, it may cause system dump.

Yes. Before changing the standard objects just go through the ABAP Dictionary documentation called Making Changes to Tables . You can also create appends for tables and structures with the Modification Assistant (see Modifying Tables and Structures).
You should also consult the sections General development organization sapurl_link_0007_0004_0005 and Notes on modifying the standard sapurl_link_0007_0005_0005 before modifying to the standard.

Changing standard data element is never a recomended approach.
Instead createa new field in the tables that you want the description.
use screen exits to show that field on the screen.
This will definitely serve your requirement....

Hello,
I wont recommend you to modify the data element. Though you can change the description of the field by using Text Enhancements using SMOD/CMOD.
Thanks
