Hi Priya
In MM02 or MM03 you are viewing the class & characteristics that have been already assigned using MM01 or function modules. When you are trying to assign classification to materials for the first time we must select the class , class type followed by the set of characteristics and its values.

Go to CT01 to create your characteristic first.
Then go to CL01 to create your class and assigned the characteristic into your class.

hi priya,
Goto CT04 transaction create characteristics.
GOto CL02 create class of which type you want ie., batch class...and attach the characteristics what you have created in ct04
then u can create classification view
reward points if it is helpful

I haven't found solution for this problem either.
When recording batch input (SHDB) for transaction MM02, I get empty characteristic values each time, no matter which combination of tabs are opened before that.
Interesting that executing the same sequence directly, it gives correct result - assigned characteristic values.

Dear Alfred Kingsley ,
What u said is correct but a small correction,
CL02 is obsolete in ECC and CL04 is in place of that
and we have to methods to create Class one is goto CL04 and give the characteristic name and double click on the given char name it takes u to CT04.
or create char through CT04 and give the char in CL04,
we have class type while creating class(CL04)
Batch Class, Material Class ,Variant Class Etc as per our requirement we need to select the class type
Thanks
