Hi Friends!

1) Could u pls tell me when to use BDC & When to use LSMW I am a technical Person i want to load data using LSMW Then when to do that? apart from doent need programming effort.

2) My Second Doubt is From LSMW, Suppose i am doing lsmw in development system can i transport the lSMW to Production & upload data to prod server just like BDC

or

I ve to do lSMW in production System to upload data in prod server

Since I am saving i am nor getting development class & transport req, that why.

Could u pls help me to solve my issue.

Thanks

Rahul.

<b>BDC</b> is for loading <b>master data</b> and <b>LSMW</b> for <b>transaction data</b>

BDC

BDC is basically for customized applications.

In bdc we have to give mapping concept explicitly.

It basically uses recording.

BDC is used by technical consultants , who do coding.

Coding can be done flexibly to customize applications.

LSMW

In lsmw mapping is take care by sap.

lsmw is basically for standard sap application.

LSMW offers different techniques for migrating data say : Direct input , Batch input recording , BAPI , IDOC

LSMW is basically designed for Functional consultants who do no coding .

Coding cannot be done flexibily as BDC.

<b>Yes</b> you can <b>transport</b> in <b>LSMW</b>! There is an <b>import export option</b> in <b>extras</b> of <b>LSMW initial screen</b>.

Hi,

If you the LSMW supports the load through Direct Input or a BATCH input or a BAPI or IDOC then go for LSMW , if not go for a BDC.

but doing LSMW is much easier than a BDC

There are 2 ways for transporting LSMW data from a system to another.

1.1 Export/import

This method gives you the opportunity to select the subprojects or objects you want to transfer. Hence you don't transfer the object a colleague might have created and that should stay in development system.

LSMW -> Extras -> Export project

1.2 Transport request

With this method, you can transport a LSMW project in full (you can not select the objects you want). With this method, the project will be transported as any other SAP object in a transport order.

LSMW -> Extras -> Create change request

Can u be more specific as a technical consultant when we need to go for lSMW.

Thanks

see you go for <b>LSMW</b> when we are <b>updating periodically</b> i.e the <b>transaction data</b> like <b>sales orders, purchase orders</b>.

Hi ,

The below listed are the cases in which you use LSMW rather than BDC.

1.LSMW is a tool for uploading the data from file into the SAP without any programming efforts.

2.If only minor modifications required to convert source data to target format.

3.If there is any standard data transfer method,BAPI is available for the data to be uploaded.

4.If the transaction is easy to record a transaction using transaction recorder for the data upload.

5.If there are no multiple transactions involved for the data upload purpose.

Thanks.

LSMW are purely used to load master data like material master, WBS master data by functional team only.

BAPI method can be used if there is suitable method which has ALE message type defined by SAP.
