Hi Vasuki,
BDC is used to upload the data INTO SAP system.
The data can be from other SAP system, same SAP system or any other Legacy system.
Hope it is clear.

Both the statements are true.
It applies like this: " BDC is used to transfer the data from Legacy system to SAP system".

Hi,
The purpose of the Batch Data Communication is to transfer data. The BDC can transfer data from one SAP System to another SAP System or can transfer data from non-SAP System to SAP System too. To transfer data BDC uses normal transaction codes. Two methods are provided to BDC to do this work.

Dear Vasuki,
In order to create a data( EX:material data) in SAP, that data should pass through each and every std data validations of SAP. BDC is a tool provide by SAP, where your data(exteranal/interanal) willl pass through the auto generated code, and post the data in SAP.
So you can post data into SAP via BDC, implies there is no concern that the data transfer is between SAP to SAP or SAP to third party system.
