bapi to create material variants for a configurable material?

Hi ,

I have tried BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVE to create material variants but it doesn't have a field (marc-stdpd) for giving a configurable material . Is there any other bapi / is there way to pass the config.material (stdpd) field in the same bapi using extension ?
(Note: Want to know only about BAPIs, whether any BAPI meets the requirement).
