For changing existing material

only material number, field you want to change & X mark against relavent view where that field exist.

you need to CALL FUNCTION 'BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT' after BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA

to reflect your changes.

For create material lot many fields will become mandatory depending on configuration of your SAP system.
