I need to take a backup of a module pool program into a local file, is there any method for doing so...?

Check Utilities->More Utilities->Upload/Download->Download in SE51.

You can also put all objects into transport request (transport of copies), export it and get it from /USR/SAP/TRANS server directory - with help of basis or using ARCHIVFILE_SERVER_TO_CLIENT.
