Avoid blank entries in table maintenance

Hello Folks,

I have created a custom table where it contains 5 fields(2 key fields & 3 radio buttons).

When i try to maintain a new entry

1) Its taking all the blank fields as entries, resulting in the error(Entry already exists)

2) I see all the lines are defaulted with radio button.

Please suggest on how to avoid this error.

Hi,

Open the Table maintenance program in SE80.

Open the Screen Layout & double click on each field so that system displays its attribute.

From the drop down select FIELD IS REQUIRED.

Activate

After making it as mandatory, it is expecting me to enter all the lines in the screen as the radio buttons are initialized.

What do you mean by;

Have you already did any modifications to the program?

Please select REQUIRED instead of OBLIGATORY.

Then in the CHAIN ENDCHAIN of the Maintenance screen, add a MODULE VALIDATE.

i.e.

CHAIN.
FIELD MATNR MODULE VALIDATE.
FIELD QTY      MODULE VALIDATE_QTY

ENDCHAIN.

MODULE VALIDATE.
if matnr is initial.
message 'Enter Material' type 'E'.
ENDMODULE.

MODULE VALIDATE_QTY.
if qty is initial.
message 'Enter Qty' type 'E'.
ENDMODULE.

But the error message is coming for all the new lines as i said radio button is defaulted to all the new lines.

Anyways thanks a lot for the effort taken.

One radio button will always be defaulted bcz the 3 radio buttons would be part of a group.

Instead of radio buttons i suggest you to go for a domain with fixed values. So that you can capture the data in one field. It will also give you a F4 help/List box.

In domain Enter values like;

A - Option1

B - Option1

C - Option1

This is also easy for retrieving data back from the database for reporting purpose.
