AIE: Debugging in Eclipse is not possible

Former Member

Hello together,

we have two development systems in our SAP Landscape. Both with the same Patch Level 7.31 SP4. On one of it, it is not possible to set breakpoints in AIE - source code editor and therefore the eclipse debugging is not working.

I receive the Error Message while "Toggle Breakpoint'. See attached screenshot.

Breakpoint cannot be toggled.

Reason: ABAP debugger for Eclipse is not available in System xxx.

Use SAP GUI for debugging. Set breakpoints there.

On our other development system the debugger works without any problems in AIE!.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Christian Hiller

Hi Christian,

the reason for the 'miracle' is that the development system where the Eclipse debugger is runing was obviously migrated to the new Kernel release 7.21. This new kernel is available since few days and contains the infrastructure for debugging. So you can check this by comparing the kernel versions of your two systems in the SAP GUI Status.

Kind Regards and Have Fun with the new debugger,

Thomas.

Hi Christian,

setting breakpoint and debugging in AiE is currently not possible. See the FAQ for AiE:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-29113#How_can_I_debug_my_application_in_Eclipse

Kind regards

Dirk

Hello Thomas,

you are right. One of our develoment has an higher kernel version as the other.

On the develoment system on which the debugger is running it has already the kernel versoin 7.21.

I think our SAP-Basis Team is doing some tests.

Thanks

Christian

"Breakpoint cannot be toggled.  Reason:  ABAP debugger for Eclipse is not available in system DEV.  Use SAP GUI for debugging.  Set breakpoints there."

Dear Kenneth,

in addition to the BASIS version the Kernel Version must be correct.

Best regards

Gregor

I guess kernel version 7.20 is installed in your BASIS 7.31 system.

Gr-e-a-t!  Means I'll have to wait until next year to get the functionality when we do annual support packs again.

Hi Christian,

One of the main functionality of a development tool depends on a specific Kernel level? So you can't use ADT properly even if you meet all other requirements? Wow...

Having a native SAP GUI open to debugg code while developing is one tool to much.

Michael
