Adding Optional fields in the ALV layout

Dear Experts,

My requirement is that i need to display few fields as mandatory fields and few fields as optional fields in the ALV list. I have read the Earlier Forums posted, but still i am not able to understand as how to achieve this functionality.

Can anybody help me in this regard?
