Hi everyone,
I'm trying to learn ABAP from home by self learning. I want to get a feel of ABAP. Need not be a professional with all advanced features and stuff, but just for self knowledge.
I was advised that I can learn by installing "Mini Web AS 6.20 ABAP Engine 3 (English)" on my home PC. It seems that it has its own editor, compiler etc etc. which should let me learn basic ABAP atleast.
Am I missing something? I have "SAPinst_SP_WAS640.exe - 726 MB" Is this the same thing? Do I have all I need? Do I need SAP DB also.
I have no clue how to get started.
All suggestions and views appreciated.

That is the sneak preview for the SAP WAS 6.40 Java. This will not give you an ABAP stack.
I suggest getting the book ABAP Objects from SAPpress. This includes a copy of the WAS 6.20.

How about this one???
"WAS_Preview_DevEdition_6_3_Beta2.exe" - 570 MB???
Does this one have an ABAP stack or this one too has a Java stack?
‎2005 Mar 10 8:21 PM
I believe that this one is also a java stack. I've been threw all the downloads looking for a freebie, the only one that I know that exists is a linix version of was 6.40 which I hear was very complex to install and I don't know where to get it. I have successfully install both WAS from both books. If I can do it, anyone can. If you don't have the cash, I would suggest gettting the Web Application Server book, with the coupon and sending for it. Its cheaper than the other book. But if you got some cash to spend, invest in the ABAP Objects book. If you are wanting to learn ABAP, you will need a good reference book.

I believe this one too comes with a CD of WAS, but 6.10 I think.
Can you confirm if this works?

Can Anyone tell me if in this version of miniSAP can I test any kind of ABAP programs ? is this just a demo, trial or something like this ?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if the message was for me, but I dont waste my time because next month I'll start the SAP collage.

The message for me, the initiator. Dont mind Adi.
I am getting my bearings with ABAP.
And about the question you asked about mini WAS adi:
The WAS 6.20 you get with ABAP objects Reference book from SAP press is a mini SAP system that lets you write and compile ABAP programs for self practice. For plain ABAP, thats your way to go for home use.
