Hi.
Purchasing group is not assigned to any organization structure it is a free floating entity it does not have any significant impact it process ,but it is essential while creating PO or purchase info record,in simple words it is group of people designated for a particular kind of procurement and externally for vendors it is point of contact

Hello,
I would like to provide you with additional information:
Internally, the purchasing group is responsible for the procurement of a material or a class of materials.
Externally, it is the medium through which contacts with the vendor are maintained.
Please note that as per standard system design purchasing group is
not copied from the vendor master (LFM1-EKGRP) to the purchase order. The field purchasing group from the vendor master will be copied into the info record instead (EINE-EKGRP).
The purchasing group in the inforecord has only an informatory character. For example at the time when the requistion is created, the purchasing group is obtained from the material master record (MARC-EKGRP).
You can default the purchasing group in ME21N using the personal setting in ME21N or the user parameter ID EKG.
Frequently, purchasing documents (such as purchase orders) are monitored by the purchasing group. Urging letters (in the case of overdue deliveries) fall also within the group's scope of activities.
For each purchasing group, statistical analyses can be performed. The purchasing group can be used as a sort criterion when creating purchasing-specific reports.
