Remote Access to SAP client.

Hi ,

We have currently installed SAPB1 client on the Terminal Server at our head office.

Our Branch is accessing the server using the Windows Terminal Server using the Remote Desktop Connection to Launch SAP.

We would like to explore other ways of using Terminal Service and launch SAP without using Remote Desktop Connectivity.

Are there any parameters which can be updated in SAP Client , such that whenever the client is opened up remotely, the IP address link of the Terminal Server is already embedded in SAP directly, without using Remote Desktop Connectivity.

Would appreciate an early response.

Regards.

Greetings,

Please note, SAP only officially supports Terminal Service and Citrix. Any other web based / remote connectivity application would not be supported and could get you into some problems when you need to work with SAP Support.

On that account, Terminal Service would be the best bet to go with, and Citrix if you have extra funds. Within TS/Citrix, you'll have the opportunity to trigger applications to auto launch (like SAP B1) or you can even leave it open ended and let users browse around as though it was their own desktop.

Thanks Davinder,

As suggested by one of the experts, we can mention the path to open up SAP directly, rather than opening up the RDC screen and then opening the Application.

However what if we need to open up other applications using the same remote server connectivity.

Is it possible?

Vishal, as mentioned, you can setup Terminal Server as so the user logs in and runs it as though it was their desktop. Are you however saying you want the Terminal Server to only allow the users to view / run 2 - 3 other applications (including SAP B1) ?

Correct, we need the user to able to choose wichever application he want to run directly, without getting the Remote connectivity screen.

Is it possible?

To explain again, without getting the Remote screen meaning, the user should be able to view the path to different programs hew would like to choose.

This is just the ballpark analysis of how we want it., we wanted to confirm if it is possible or not.

Thanks once again.

To elaborate:

In addition to SAP B1, user will have to access other applications which go in conjunction with SAPB1.

1. Export Reports from SAPB1 in Excel (Can this be done such that excel is exported on Users PC and not terminal server excel)

2. Shared Drives to upload serial numbers

3. Crystal Reports for SAB B1

Well currently I'm not aware of how Terminal Service can do that. I've seen the function you described on a different application called Go Global but thats not supported by SAP. Maybe you should also review whats being provided by Microsoft via the Windows 2003 Server (or 2008).

1. Export Reports from SAPB1 in Excel (Can this be done such that excel is exported on Users PC and not terminal server excel)

- if this is the case, the user will have to just copy the generated text file and save it to their local machine, and then open it in Excel.

2. Shared Drives to upload serial numbers

- Within SAP Business One, you're able to create a new application under the 'Launch Application' and set the UNC path to "
klserver\Temp Share" for example. In the Command pull down option select "find folder". This could help you in item # 1 above.

3. Crystal Reports for SAB B1

- The crystal reports for SAP B1 is an add-on. As such, its already being called from the B1 menu. Why would you need to make it so that the Terminal Server runs this separately?

Hi,

hariprasad is perfectly right.

i want to add one more additional option.

1. ericom-> no need to install any client application at remote location, a url will come after installing citrix at the server.use that url at remote client location, you will get sap shortcut on you desktop.

Its cheap compare to citrix.

HI vishal

we have two ways in sap to connect to remote client.

1. with VPN -> if using vpn you need to install client SAP application in the remote site, and in sap you have to give the ip of remote server in change server option.then it will connect to remote server and it will work.

2. Citrix -> no need to install any client application at remote location, a url will come after installing citrix at the server.use that url at remote client location, you will get sap shortcut on you desktop.

Hi Vishal

Remote desktop has replaced the old terminal server client, so if you want to access the terminal server, you must use remote desktop. You can create a shortcut to the remote desktop (terminal server) on your user's desktop, but this requires still clicking on SAP Business One as well once the remote desktop has loaded. On the remote desktop you can set it to automatically run a program when logging on. Click on Remote Desktop and click on options (do not click on connect yet). Then go to the Programs Tab and enter the details for SAP Business One (path, etc.).

Kind regards

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply!

One more question on this, Is it possible to view and select the programs we would like to run after doing the above setup.

Our Branch would need to access multiple programs i.e. SAP, Crystal Reports etc.

Is it possible to choose whichever application we would like to open?

Best Regards.

Hi Avijit,

Currently, we are using Terminal Service to access SAP.

Hence was looking for a solution on how to select multiple programs using the solution which Peter recommended.

VPN and Citrix all alternatives which we could definitely loo in to for our other branches.

Thanks for your reply once again.
