Dear all,
I would like to ask if there's any information about adding Windows 10 in the list of supported operating systems for SAP BusinessObjects 4.1 Client Tools. Currently, I install SP6 client tools on a virtual machine which runs Windows 10 (Build 10240) in order to perform some basic functionality tests.
Thanks in advance for any information.
Best regards,
ilias

Dear Harshad & Pooja,
I would like to thank you for your replies.
Before opening this discussion, I have already checked:
I would like to find something more like an unofficial internal information about the future support of Windows 10.
For your information:

Hi Ilias,
Well about the internal information I am not sure what are you looking for because that would be something classified
Yes you should be able to install and work on the client tools on Windows 10 machine however if you face any problems with it SAP will not support it as the product is not tested against Windows 10 and you may run into some wired problems or you may just get lucky by not facing any issues

Dear Jawahar & Harshad,
I am aware of the support issues that may arise from installing the client tools on a non-supported O/S, but I just test the installation / basic functionality on a virtual machine with the new version of the operating system (not on a productive workstation).
It's quite strange that we haven't received any information yet (even a rough estimate) since Windows 10 will soon 'appear' on our customers' workstations / laptops.
Thanks once more,
ilias
Hi Ilyas,
Just for your information. Blog from SAP Mentor on Windows 10 supportability.

Thanks

Hi,
i work for SAP so this is moreless official
Firstly, the distinction needs to be made between Client Tools (installed on the laptop) and Web Apps (accessed over a browser).
1. BI4 desktop 'client tools' are penned to support Windows 10 as of BI4.2 - this will hopefully plan to go GA next year in Q1 2016 or thereabouts
2. for our BI4 'web clients', I believe the compatibility 'gotcha' would be whether we support the recommended internet browser version(s) that are installed on/work with Windows 10 (also including the dependent browsers add-ons and accelerators).
re: that second point, it's a risk your customer shouldn't take given how much browser technology is changing. it's also mostly not an SAP -driven problem
To comment on your test, Yes win10 should work, except when you use the "Edge" browser (as opposed to IE)
Regards,
H
I think SAP has a good plan here. I can't see enterprises even thinking about Windows 10 until 2016, and even then, I'm not sure they have a compelling reason (yet) to open their wallets to get off of Windows 7. My hunch is the rapid burst of Windows 10 adoption following its launch is primarily people just like me desperate to get Windows 8 off of their home PCs.
Looking forward, Java 9 is coming in September 2016. My hope is that SAP will surprise us with a fully-functional Java-free version of Web Intelligence that supports the new Edge browser by that date.

Hi Ilias,
Currently Windows 8.1 is supported as client O.S.
Windows 10 support has not been rolled out yet.
I have checked the PAM.

Pooja

Hi Ilias,
BI4.1 SP6 will not be supported with Windows 10 as per the PAM. The PAM has OS supported till windows 8.1
Maybe some future releases will be having Windows 10 support
