if you're using SAP ERP HCM (on-Premise) on an S/4 HANA system, there is no difference in the "configuration and implementation" of ESS/MSS.

yes, to adapt the UI of the FPM based HRMSS_HOMEPAGE application I'd also suggest using the "component customizing", as this is a very easy way to make a lot of UI adaptions without any necessity of code changes whatsoever.
