I had the same issue but was able to fix it by removing the useDateRangeType property of the SmartFilterbar.
After that it worked as described

I got the same issue but was able to fix it the following way:
In order to make this work the property useDateRangeType of the SmartFilterbar itself must be removed! That solved the issue for me.
I tested it for Version 1.88.0 and 1.7...
