The solution was to prefix "." when using service URL e.g. url: "." + this.getMetadata().getConfig().serviceUrl.

@sunil_Create a new empty mta project with a router, then add a fiori submodule in a seperate directory. Here is a tutorial I followed: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/appstudio-fioriapps-mta-build-deploy.html

I fixed the problem by recreating the project as MTA-Router and adding the Fiori part as a submodule. Previously everything was in one directory.
