You are an SAP customer, who is still running SAP Jam Collaboration solutions? Then this blog post is relevant for you. SAP Jam Collaboration was SAP’s enterprise collaboration platform and modern intranet solution for a long time. Then SAP made the strategic decision to exit the standalone collaboration area and focus on the Digital Workplace Experience market with products such as SAP Build Work Zone and SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone. As a result, SAP announced already in 2021 the maintenance mode and planned sunset of SAP Jam Collaboration for beginning of 2027. This includes all SAP Jam Collaboration editions: Basic, Advanced, Advanced Plus, and Enterprise. What is the status of SAP Jam Collaboration in 2024? All SAP Jam Collaboration editions are now in maintenance mode and were removed from the SAP pricelist in 2021. While no new enhancements will be made, they continue to be fully supported in accordance with the customers’ cloud contract. It is planned to sunset SAP Jam in January 2027. SAP Jam Collaboration is also not available for purchase for new customers, existing customers can continue to use their SAP Jam Collaboration products for the duration of their contract. If you are currently licensed for SAP Jam Collaboration Advanced, Advanced Plus or Enterprise Editions, you can renew these subscriptions provided that the end date of the contract does not exceed December 2026. If you have benefited from SAP Jam Collaboration Basic Edition, that was provided complimentary to your SAP SuccessFactors subscription, you are welcome to continue to use this until your contract end date, provided that the end date of the contract does not exceed December 2026. Note: customers will not be able to use SAP Jam Collaboration after end of life of the solution, and all systems would be removed permanently after this date. Therefore it is very important for customers to plan a migration from SAP Jam Collaboration to the alternative products before December 2026 or by the end of their cloud contract. Is there a legal successor for SAP Jam Collaboration? What is the recommended go-to product for SAP customers ? There is no legal successor product for SAP Jam Collaboration editions. SAP has released alternative products with SAP Build Work Zone and SAP SuccessFactors Work Zone – which provide many features known from SAP Jam Collaboration editions, but also offer a broad range of additional capabilities and innovative features. With these new products, various use cases like engaging employee experience platforms, modern intranets or integrated digital workplace scenarios can be implemented. Why is SAP investing into a unified workplace experience that increases engagement and productivity of end users? When asking employees about the primary operational challenge that they encounter when trying to accomplish their day-to-day work activities, you will often get the answer that it is too hard for them find the data that they need, that they need too much time by switching between applications and finding the right applications to accomplish the tasks. The work experience is fragmented between multiple tools, tons of systems, repositories and applications. If we look at a typical SAP customer system landscape, the end users often need to access multiple SAP systems cloud and on-premise with multiple user experiences via desktop and mobile devices. SAP Build Work Zone and SAP Successfactors Work Zone offer a solution to this problem. They enable companies, IT departments and employees to improve this situation by bringing it all together and making it easier to consume. Both products deliver consistent and engaging user experiences across all channels, business processes, and applications. What is SAP Build Work Zone? It is available in two editions: SAP Build Work Zone, standard edition, provides a central access point to multiple SAP cloud & on-premise systems, integrating apps and providing customizations and extensions. SAP Build Work Zone, advanced edition, provides advanced features for content management, web content, interactive and engaging workspaces, and integration with third party solutions. This image shows an example of a homepage created with the advanced edition: For a migration from SAP Jam Collaboration to SAP Build Work Zone, the advanced edition is the correct migration path, as workspaces - the evolution of Jam groups - are only available in the advanced edition. Also SAP IT went through this transition experience in 2022 with a large project covering 145 TB of data, 15 million documents and +150.000 Jam groups converted to workspaces in SAP Build Work Zone, advanced edition. November 25, 2022 was the date when SAP employees were provided a new digital collaborative workplace with SAP Build Work Zone replacing SAP Jam. The cutover to SAP Build Work Zone involved remarkably little disruption for users. The "pure" technical migration took place only over one weekend. On Fridays, users still worked with SAP Jam groups. On Monday, they logged in and had SAP Build Work Zone workspaces in place, including all the content. Straight after the migration, several thousand groups (now: workspaces) were operating smoothly, letting employees complete tasks and interact with customers, partners, and other stakeholders.
