SCC4 vs SE06

Hi,

Is it a correct statement if I say that, whatever the state SE06 is (modifiable or non-modifiable), if SCC4 is closed (no change allowed and no change to repository/cross-client customizing objects), no change can be done whatsoever to any object in the client that is closed in SE06?

And if this is true, is there anywhere in the documentation that I can find proof of that (for now, the only place that seems to confirm my theory is https://answers.sap.com/questions/6124980/system-was-open-using-se06-and-scc4.html)

Thanks

Hello Christian,

for clarifying:

  • SE06 is changing the status on SYSTEM level on the very basic cross client layer

==> Setting the System Change Option

  • SCC4 is changing status on CLIENT level above the system layer

Why it is necessary also to set "changes allowed" on client level when you want to make changes to cross client repository objects or customizing ?

When SW components in SE06 are set to modifiable you can make direct changes to cross client repository objects or customizing in the system only by accessing clients where at same time changes are allowed to cross client repository objects or customizing.
Means:

1. SE06 not modifiable + SCC4 no changes allowed = no modification of cross client repository objects and customizing are possible
2. SE06 not modifiable + SCC4 changes allowed = no modification of cross client repository objects and customizing are possible basically through any such configured client
3. SE06 modifiable + SCC4 no changes allowed = no modification of cross client repository objects and customizing possible through such a client
4. SE06 modifiable + SCC4 changes allowed = modification of cross client repository objects and customizing possible through such a client

So the only valid option for modification of cross client repository objects and customizing is no. 4.
This mandatory usage of option 4 is described in SAP note 2369567 - Job SWWRUNCNT failing on Netweaver 7.50 and higher

Furthermore SAP note 2858447 - How to control Object/Repository changes in Production Environment? describes to protect production system by changing settings in SCC4 only.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards
Klaus
