Hi Kanayochukwu,

basically a good way to stay informed are the blogs by boris.rubarth.
Here you also get information on how to start with SUM.

What I also recommend are the GUIDES provided by the Software Logistics Tools homepage.

Please use SUM 2.0 for an S/4HANA upgrade scenario. The guide can also be found on above mentioned page at "Software Update/Upgrade using SUM".

The SUM guide explains everything on how to start the SUM and what the different settings influence.

Best regards,
Andreas

Kanayochukwu,

This will be a software maintenance/upgrade procedure as source system is already on S/4HANA1709.

Assume you are planning for S/4HANA 1709 to 2020 then refer below note as starting point and dependencies

  • 2884313 - SAP S/4HANA 2020: Release Information
  • 2935104 - Central Note - Software Update Manager 2.0 SP10

Refer below link for overview on SUM

https://blogs.sap.com/2012/11/07/software-update-manager-sum-introducing-the-tool-for-software-maint...

THen please follow our recommendation anyway... the recommended blogs (and follow up blogs) are a good introduction and you always have to refer to the Software Update Manager guide referenced in my post.

Kanayochukwu,

Based on above info, your requirement is to perform SP Stack to 6 on S/4HANA 1709.

as informed above, Software Update Manager can be used to

  • Apply Support Packages or Support Package Stacks
  • Implement Enhancement Packages
  • Apply a new release

Please follow the steps given in the doc.

Hi Kanayochukwu,

did you read the SUM guide? This is definitely something you should do in order to understand the procedure. It can be found at Software Logistics Tools homepage.

Please use SUM 2.0 for an S/4HANA update scenario. The guide can also be found on above mentioned page at "Software Update/Upgrade using SUM".

The SUM guide explains everything on how to start the SUM and what the different settings influence. How to start SUM is explained at chapter 6 (Running the Software Update Manager).

Best regards,
Andreas
