Task 0 - Pre-requisite for August developer challenge - "ABAP Core Data Services"

This is a discussion to complete the pre-requisite task in the August Developer Challenge – ABAP Core Data Services

This task is to get you onboarded to explore ABAP Core Data Services journey. To have a seamless experience taking up the challenge there are some pre-requisites which needs to be fulfilled and this discussion will help you through.

Task 0 – Setting up the environment and required test data to complete the SAP Developer Challenge – ABAP Core Data Services

Kindly make sure all the below steps are checked.

1. Install latest ABAP Development Tools (ADT) in eclipse. Link: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/abap-install-adt.html
2. System access: You can either use SAP BTP ABAP Environment (BTP Trial or BTP free tier) or any SAP system which you can connect to ADT to create ABAP Cloud project or ABAP project.
1. Get an Account on SAP BTP Trial: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/hcp-create-trial-account.html
2. Create an SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial User: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/abap-environment-trial-onboarding.html
3. You need to create ABAP Cloud project or ABAP project in ADT. The below links will help you in creating ABAP Cloud project or ABAP Project according to the system you choose.
1. Create an ABAP Project in ABAP Development Tools (ADT) if you are using an on-premise system: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/abap-create-project.html
2. Create an ABAP Cloud Project if you are using SAP BTP ABAP Environment or SAP S/4HANA Cloud system: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/abap-environment-create-abap-cloud-project.html
4. We will be using ABAP Flight Reference Scenario for the Developer Challenge. In the system check if database table /DMO/Travel is available else follow this link to upload the reference scenario to your system.

5. Create a package for the Developer Challenge and be ready.
1. Note: Whichever approach you choose to create a project in ADT, kindly make sure you give a unique ID to your package, ideally one that relates to your SAP Community ID. Give the same unique ID while creating other development objects throughout the upcoming tasks.

In this pre-requisite task, there is no validation required. This thread is to discuss this task, to make comments and observations, and to help each other get through the steps needed.

A tip for those who still don't use eclipse as an ABAP development IDE: install the 2022-03 version of eclipse and install using the standard procedures and when installing ADT, use the corresponding version via the link https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/2022-03.

I tried to install the latests versions several times and during the installation of ADT errors always occurred.
During my analysis, a year ago, this was the version that installed without any problems.
After installation, remember to update to the latest version of eclipse and ADT. It will work normally.
