Workbench access from a thin client

Former Member

Hi,

Is it now possible to log on the ABAP workbench and a sandbox from a think client?

I asked the question to Azure, to AWS, they don't seem to have a solution.

Some colleagues say that SAP offers this possibility.

What is the reality?

Thank you, all.

Thank you for showing interest in my question.

The point is:

a) I am learning ABAP and want to make some tests and learn hands-on the workbench.

b) I am at home and have a Mac.

c) I am reluctant to invest $ and time in buying a PC and installing all SAP software stacks on it.

So, I assume SAP or some cloud provider may offer connections to some dev environment from any hardware, with just a browser. No?

Install the SAPGUI Java version on the mac, and use Eclipse. This is the SAP recommended IDE anyway.

You can get Eclipse from the web at www.eclipse.org, and install the ABAP tools with the links given at https://tools.hana.ondemand.com, but SAPGUI is a bit more tricky as you need an S-user to download it. Details here: SAP GUI for Java 7.50 available for download

Agree with Mike, MiniSAP is another option. Can be seen in here @ https://go.support.sap.com/minisap/#/minisap

It has a 30 day trial version usage. I had a personal version of mini sap, but, it has little or minimal help installed.
Have to visit, SAP help portal, for online help on coding / development

In Mini SAP its is local based, not cloud based, the download was faster, but i had issues setting up MaxDB, there was some kind of a calculation on the % of allocation. But there is a help file, that comes along with MiniSAP, should be helpful.

Out of the box, now, you can even get fast issue resolution for your technical, product-related questions through one-on-one interactions with a qualified and approved expert outside of SAP, with a vast product list, FAQ and more @ https://www.wbca.st/aQe8g8w

Hope this helps..
