Variants overwritten by upgrade/patch?

Hi,

Can anyone confirm if an upgrade or patch for an SAP delivered application overwrites selection screen/ALV variants stored by the user. If so, how do we prevent this?

Don't know about ALV, but an upgrade does not normally overwrite normal report selection variants; however, if a report is changed, the existing variants may become invalid if say a field on the screen changes length.

SAP has provided a couple of programs to help you out:


RSVARDOC                       Rescue obsolete variants 
RSVARDOC_610                   Rescue obsolete variants

Thnx for the reply. Check out SAP note 65343 for problems with screen variants and 617023 for ALV lyout problems.
