value split in excel download

Hi,

I have a text field which gets downloaded to excel(.xls format) Eg : ABCDEFG as its value

But when I paste this value in notepad, it has an inbuilt horizontal_tab separation. In notepad, it is ABCD EFG

This is not visible on SAP GUI. So, when this value is getting split in the excel and ABCD is staying in TEXT column but EFG moving to next column incorrectly. Reason being, horizontal_tab is used as separator for column values.

Advice how to overcome this issue and make ABCDEFG stay in a single column.

Did you try to use a CSV type format and not a TXT tab delimited ("ABCD[tab]EFG")

Do you mean .xls file extension or the Excel Binary File Format (A.K.A. Excel BIFF)? Usually people use CSV format but name the file with the incorrect extension .xls (instead of using .csv to conform the contents in CSV format).

If you can open your .xls file with notepad, it means it's not the Excel Binary File Format, it's a text format like CSV, or tab-delimited values, etc. When you open it with Excel, it tries to deduce the right format. Understand that there's no way that it understands if it's one field or two fields. If you use the extension .csv, it says to Excel that the fields are separated with a comma, and so your field with a tab will be rendered as one field with a tab.

Now if you show us the exact format of your file, maybe we'll be able to answer better.

One thing you can do before download, split the text at Horizontal Tab in 2 variables and then concatenate them with SPACE in between. If you have multiple TAB in a text, you can split the same in a table and then concatenate them
