User Exits

Hi Folks,

I'm new to ABAP and as such I need clarification regarding the following:

1) what actually a user-exit do? Is it similar to what a trigger does in

SQL?

2) Do we have to use only the SAP defined user-exits or can we code it in

our programs?

3) Can we customize in such a way that messages within our organization is

sent thro' Lotus Notes? This is a requirement by our Orgn. Pl help me out as

this is very urgent? Also Pl. be as detailed as posssible.

We are on 3.1h.

If you mean by the 3rd question can SAPMail be sent to Lotus Notes the

answer is yes. You need to follow the installation instructions for

integrating your Notes server, but it is possible to send SAP information to

external email programs.
