iget the sm13 message ' Work process re-started, session terminated'.

what can be this pointing to?

Go to ST22 or SM21 and see if there is additional information there.

Sounds like someone killed the process in the middle.

Check out transaction SM13 also. Maybe it will give the reason for the update failure there.
