Hi all,
I know that this is more of a basis question, but I figured I should try my luck.
I worked (for tranining only) in a MiniSAP Sistem, and created a few Workbench objects: a few tables, a few maintainance screens, a few maintainance module pools, a few transactions (so I guess I should mention from the beginning that, as no productive system is involved, the question is not urgent).
I want to move my work (everything is grouped in a single development class and a single transport request (something like MBSK900019) ) on a different computer, on which I have a brand new instance of SAP MiniBasis System.
I want ofcourse afterwards to import all these objects into the new system.
Could I export from the old MBS a file containing all these objects, copy the file on the new computer, and then import them in the new MBS?
Thank you very much,
Bogdan CIOC

Yes you can.
If your Transport System is set up correctly and a virtual system is installed you can export your request. The request is then stored in the
/usr/sap/trans/data
/usr/sap/trans/cofiles
directories. You can copy the files and move them to your new system and import the request.
Hope that helps, Michael

The Transport System obviously isn't set up correctly, as I indeed have a virtual target system in my STMS but the communication with it is not possible (RFC error).
What could I do?
Thank you,

You cannot connect to a VIRTUAL system. Thats why its called VIRTUAL. It doesnt really exist.
By the way: where did you test the connection to the virtual system?

On the import overview screen of STMS, you can see the status of a transport source or destination.
For the virtual system, the error is:
"RFC communications error with system/destin
TMSADM@MBS.DOMAIN_MBS
hostname 'dec04' unknown / CPI-C error
CM_PRODUCT_SPECIFIC_ERROR."
Does this ring a bell? Anything that might help me?

I don't think that this is an virtual system. Because a virtual system has no host name!
Start transaction STMS again.
Goto: --> Overview --> Systems
What Systems are there?
Behind a virtual system there is a small dark-gray circle with an X in it. Do you have something like that?

Ok, Michael, you were right.
The configuration of my source system was incorrect.
I managed to fix it (the host parameter of the source transport system was incorrect).
Now, could I <b>re-release</b> the transport request, to generate the file I need?
Thank you, Bogdan

Hi!
That's not possible - that's finished and in the past. But you can create a new transport request and import object list of existing (meaning your 'old' request. (SE09 and CTRL+F11)
By releasing this new request, new files (with new version) will be created.

OK, I figured that.
But, when releasing the new transport request, the file still isn't created, although the source system (domain controller) and the virtual system seem to be configured correctly.
I think I should probably study closer the transport system of SAP R/3 to figure out where the problem is.

Hi Bogdan,
After creation of the new request instead of adding all the objects manually again to the request, try this one
Create a new Request.
Choose the request.
Click on menu option REQUEST/TASK -> OBJECT LIST -> INCLUDE OBJCETS. Once you click on ONCLUDE OBJECTS a small popup will come. In that popup spaecify your old request number.
Once you release the request check the status from menu GOTO -> TRANSPORT LOGS.
Thanks

Hello Bogdan,
if you create a new request you must enter the virtual system as target system. If you don't do this your request becomes a 'Local change request'. If you release such a local change request no files are written!
goto SE09
choose 'Create F7'
choose the type of request you want to create (Workbench I suppose)
type a short description
and in this dialog box there is a field called 'Target'
press F4 for a list of the target systems you have
there should be your virtual system
select it
Now you can include objects in the request.
And if you release the request you should find the files.

What transport routes should there be between the domain controller and the virtual system?
What is a consolidation system? Can the virtual system be the consolidation system?

OK, guys.
I had to create a "transport layer" to which to attach my development class. I made this transport layer the default transport layer for the domain controller. After creating the transport layer, I created also a transport route between my domain controller and the virtual system, using as consolidation server the virtual system.
After creating a new transport request and setting the virtual system as the target system, I released the request.
TP started, and created for me the file in the \trans\cofiles\ directory, but never created the file in the \trans\data\ directory.
The transport log explains the situation in more detail:
======================================================
Checks at operating system level 17.02.2005 09:38:29 (0) Successfully completed
Export 17.02.2005 09:38:32 In process: Requires update
Export application-defined objects 17.02.2005 09:47:03 <b>Not yet executed</b>
Import steps not specific to transport request
====================================================
That means the export is in progress. But it never finishes, unfortunately.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you,
Bogdan

Hello Bogdan,
great job!
What's in the objectlist of your transport request?

Hi Bogdan,
I am getting the same error that you have mentioned in your last post.
Checks at operating system level 18.12.2009 09:18:20 (0) Successfully completed
Export 18.12.2009 09:18:21 In process: Requires update
Export application-defined objects 18.12.2009 10:19:42 Not yet executed
Import steps not specific to transport request
I am having a Change document object in my transport request.
Were you able to solve this problem? Can you let me know how to fix this if so?
Thank you.
Regards,
Immanuel.
