Hi Guys,
I need a suggestion from you regarding the better option to be used in following case.
We are use a standard report called RFUMSV00 for VAT reporrting. Now this allows reoprting only for
the 3 or 4 coutries being hard coded by SAP in the report. We want to use it for other countries as well.
There are two options for this:
1) One is to modify the existing SAP report so that it will also allow other countries to use
the existing report.
2) Create a new Z program and copy the standard SAP code to it and then do modifications to it.
Can someone tell me what are the pros and cons of both of the above options ?
Which one is the best to use?
Thanks,
Tushar.

hi Tushar,
don't disturb SAP standard code, instead you can create your own Zprgram by copying the standard sap code.
Try to implement the new Zprogram from standard one..
Thanks

Hi ABAP Gurus,
Please post uour suggestions regarding the pros and cons for this one....

Hi Tushar,
You should always try not modifying the standard SAP code. This will create a problem while upgradation to the newer versions os SAP.
SAP will not take care of your modifications and when you upgrade to the newer version, this report might not work...
I suggest you to create a copy of the report into a Zprogram.

hi,
if there are any exits for that we can implement the code.
but if there are no user-exits then it is better to go for new Zprogram.
you can add your own code in the Zprogram, but you don't know the impact of the changes in std program.

Hi Tushar!
Funny, just because of the same reasons, I would prefer changing the standard.
Like Lokesh said: "This will create a problem while upgradation to the newer versions os SAP.
SAP will not take care of your modifications and when you upgrade to the newer version, this report might not work..." and this is already true for hotpackages / OSS-notes.
But that's what I want to have. This report is full of OSS-note changes -> there seems to be a lot to be changed to run correctly in all circumstances. If you make a copy, you will not get corrections any longer automatically. Only with a modification SPAU will be triggered and someone can check, if your modification is still working (better than ever) or adjustments have to be done.
When after an upgrade tables might be filled in other ways and whole logic of this report has changed - with a copy you just would read the data in the old (now wrong) way and report wrong values. With a modification the need to make changes would be obvious.

So Cristian,
you mean to say I should not go with creating my zprogram but do modifications to existing standard SAP code.

So should I consider that if upgrades are done than the new corrections will not be there in my zprogram. So its better to have changes to standard SAP code.

Hey,
don't be impatient - we just had a go-live on 01.01.
I see all the concerns and I don't like to change standard coding, too.
If you need some completely other ways, make a copy.
If you just need some different defaults (your country / language...), make a simple modification.
If you need sometimes a different calculation - difficult question, I would prefer a modification.
But only in a way, where you can deactivate your changes. Simplest way: check for a user parameter or an entry in a Z-table. Best way: add a Badi-call in the report, code the whole Badi (<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2004/helpdata/en/eb/3e7cee940e11d295df0000e82de14a/frameset.htm">definition</a> and <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2004/helpdata/en/eb/3e7cf4940e11d295df0000e82de14a/frameset.htm">implementation</a>) by yourself.

Hi,
A very good question!!
First Check with your functional consultant if they agree to change the standard they go ahead else copy and create a z program.
<b>A very good option would be not to affect the standard!!</b>

Hi Tushar,
SAP - Developed their software for more than 30 years. SAP thought of all possible permutation & combination of scenarios that will occur in the business.
<a href="http://www.sapfans.com/sapfans/saphist.htm">SAP History</a>
When there is any modification to be done on the SAP Standard program. SAP introduced what you call as enhancement.
Enhancement are used to customise the sap standard program with our own program. There are 2 transaction codes involved. They are CMOD & SMOD.
About Enhancements... Here are the links...
1. Enhancements (CMOD).
http://www.sapdevelopment.co.uk/enhance/enhancehome.htm
2. CMOD vs SMOD
http://www.sap-img.com/abap/what-is-the-difference-between-smod-and-cmod.htm
So What is my suggion is that to go for ZProgram because
if you are going to change the report code the programmers who
comes after you may need to look at the same report he may
mis-understand some information which may lead to chaos.
So use ZProgram so that he can see that it is only the enhancement of the report. So that he can understand better.
This is similar to the problem like changing the software which is a baseline a concept of software engineering where you are not allowed to change the baseline software.
Hope it helps.
