Hello All,

We are implementing the new Support packs in one of our instances. Could you please let me know the role of an ABAP Developer during the support pack installations and any documents (apart from help.sap.com as there are no screen shots) or ppt presentations outlining the steps if available could you please forward it to balaji_sravan@yahoo.com.

Regards,

-Sravan

Hi, Welcome to SDN!. Usually support packs are installed by the basis team. Unless some ABAP work is needed for the specific support pack, there is not need to have an ABAP developer on hand.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your posting.

Yes, we were told that Basis personnel will be applying the support packs using the TA Codes SPAM/SAINT. We were told that ABAPers are required as back up and we need to use the TA Codes SPAU and SPDD to fix the issues.

Would like to view the actual screen shots and the steps that need to be performed, if we are called upon.

Regards,

- Sravan

In our environment, the developers routinely apply OSS notes and occasionally make mods to SAP code. So we are also responsible for checking SPAU and SPAD so that any changes that we have made to SAP code are correctly taken care of during the implementation of the support packs.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your posting.

As this is the first time that my team is involved in the support pack installations i am a bit nervous.

I entered into the TA Codes SPAU and SPDD but could not get any useful information. I read through the help.sap.com but as there were zero screen shots of the actual screens (only theory) i could not corelate with the screens in SPDD/SPAU.

If you have any self prepared document which outlines the steps and the screen shots it would be of great help to me.

May be after implementing the support packs personally i will be in a position to help others.

Sravan,

If your organization follows SAP "best practices" by not making changes to SAP's code, you should have nothing to do. The Basis team will address all issues as they will need SAP's assistance (possibly).

If you have made changes to the SAP core programs and these programs are being changed by the support packs, you might have some work to do. Your work would be to ensure that the correct code is installed onto the system to complete the business transaction correctly and completely.

Some notes are release independent. If you have installed any of these, you will have to check and re-apply any that were overwritten.
