SAP Scripts are client dependent and SMARTFORMS are Client Independent.

Difference with SMARTFORMS vs. SapScript(SE71)

The Following are the differences:-

a) Multiple page formats are possible in smartforms which is not the case in SAPScripts

b) It is possible to have a smartform without a main window.

c) Labels cannot be created in smartforms.

d) Routines can be written in smartforms tool.

e) Smartforms generates a function module when activated.

Yes, there is, but only SAP will know the exact answer...

Smartform is a function module, so it have to be client independent in every case...

The reason for smartform being client independent is, when we activate a smartform, it generates a Function Module name and we use the function module name to call the smartform....

Function Module is CLIENT INDEPENDENT and inturn smartform is client independent.

Managing SAPscript between clients is complex and not consistant with the SAPtransport system. SAPscript was the first tool for form creation and Smartforms an improvment on it, so Smartforms are better in a number of ways, including being client independent and fulling linked with the transport system. In this way they work in the same way as any other SAP development object.
