SAP R/3 landscape generally can be viewed as the path of transports.
It depends on the company how many systems they want to keep from Development/sandbox to Production server.
For example in my the landscape is
Sandbox -> Development -> QA -> prod
R/3 System Landscape -> It is the architecture of servers
R/3 have three types of landscapes..
1.Development -> Consultants customize according to customers requirements.
2.Quality -> Team who test customization.
3.Production -> Place where live data of company is recorded.
