With a select what does an asterisk as part of the file name mean?

SELECT POSNR INTO ZPOD-POSNR FROM *ZPOD WHERE TRKNBR = ITAB1-TRKNBR.

ENDSELECT.

I found the answer to my question. An asterisk is used to indicate a work area.
