SAP implementation versus upgrade

Hi guys,

What is the difference between implementation and upgrade ?

If someone asks , "how many implementations you have done" then what should be the answer.

What are all steps in life cycle. Are there any tools ?

I understand , we get design docs and we go ahead with the code.....

What is upgrade ?

What are all steps involved in it ?

Many thanks .

Cheers,

Garrick.

Hi

See this

There are different types of Projects in SAP:

1. Implementation

Customer wants to install SAP/Include different modules of SAP viz. MM/SD/FI/CO/PP etc for the first time.Previously he might be using some legacy system in his orgn. This is implementation project. Here one needs to integrate several modules, migrate data from Legacy system to SAP system. Need to prepare interfaces/RFC's to interact with 3rd party systems.

Most of the company's follow ASAP methodology for the Implementation projects

there are 5 stages in the ASAP methodology

they are

1. Project Initial Preparation

2.Business Blueprint

3.Realization

4/ Final Preparation

5.Golive And Support

ABAP work mostly starts in the Blue print ending stage or in the realization stage

2. Support

Customer has already installed SAP & wants to give the work of maintaining those systems. This is support project

There is no phases in it. Just receive the tickets, solve and send back to client.

3. Upgrade

Customer has SAP Version 4.6b and wants to update his version i.e. wants to go to Version 4.7. This is upgrade project

4. Rollouts

Customer has upgraded his version & wants to rollout country specific changes.

This is rollout project

Say a COmpany is having branches in 3 to 4 countries.

In One country they have already implemented SAP

IF they wants to implement the same SAP in other countries of their branches they will simply follow the same SAP implementation policy (Rollout) how they have done for the first country just by changing the country specific settings and configurations.

Hi,

Please find the below steps.

<b>Implementation:</b>

<b>Five Phases of ASAP methodlogy.</b>

<b>Phase 1: Project Preparation</b> - The purpose of this phase is to provide initial planning and preparation for your SAP project.

<b>Phase 2: Business Blueprint</b> - The purpose of this phase is to achieve a common understanding of how the company intends to run its business within the SAP System. The result is the Business Blueprint, a detailed documentation of the results gathered during requirements workshops. The Business Blueprint document represents the business process requirements of the company. It is the agreed statement of how the company intends to run its business within the SAP System.

<b>Phase 3: Realization</b> - The purpose of this phase is to implement all the business process requirements based on the Business Blueprint. The system configuration methodology is provided in two work packages: Baseline (major scope); and Final configuration (remaining scope).

<b>Phase 4: Final Preparation</b> - The purpose of this phase is to complete the final preparation (including testing, end user training, system management and cutover activities) to finalize your readiness to go live. The Final Preparation phase also serves to resolve all critical open issues. On successful completion of this phase, you are ready to run your business in your live SAP System.

<b>Phase 5: Go Live & Support</b> - The purpose of this phase is to move from a project-oriented, pre-production environment to live production operation

<b>Upgrade:</b>

Lets say A company has allready implemeted sap and now they want to update with latest version or further version. What we called it is "upgradation project'.

New enhancements for the existing programs, new applications for the Documents.

Once you will complete the upgration. The existing changes will be overwritten by Newer version. You can keep previous version changes by maintaings some settings.

pls reward points if use ful.

Regard,

Kishore
