Has anyone worked on sample allocation in a pharma industry. Is there a standard SAP process which we can leverage and customize for this functionality ??

This is regarding allocation of samples to Sales Reps for handing out to physicians and Hospitals.

Hi,
sample allocation is typically done top-down across the different regions etc. It very much depends on the specific country as the amount of samples that can be handed out is very different (germany. 2 per year, US: basically no limit). You have to make sure that physicians do not receive too many samples, especially in hospitals, as this could be regarded as a free delivery which impacts government price reporting.
Where do you try to implement the allocation? In CRM or ERP?
In ERP what we have done is to maintain each rep as a customer that has his own Consignment Inventory. The rep orders through a normal order and therefore you can use Customer Allocation in this process. It also allows to monitor the stock of each employee, use Physical Inventory processes etc.
I hope this helps.
Also have a look at SAP Best Practices in help.sap.com. Under Industry packages, you will find a lot more information on Pharma.
