Hi,
SM31 - Standard Table Maintenance.
SM30 - Extended Table Maintenace.
SM30 is gradually taking over from SM31. There is no such difference in the functionality of both, because both serve the same purpose. SM31 is valid for table which were created before Rel. 3.0, since these tables don't contain the maintenance modules required for SM30.
sm30 is used to view the ' Call Up View Maintenance ' and SM31 is to view the ' Table maintenance '

HI.
SM30 is used for table maintainence(addition or deletion of records),
For all the tables in SE11 for which Table maintenance is selected , they can be maintained in SM30
Sm30 is used to maintain the table ,i.e to delete ,insert or modify the field values and all..It creates the maintenance screen for u for the aprticular table as the maintenance is not allowed for the table..
In the SE11 delivery and maintenance tab, keep the maintenance allowed..
Then come to the SM30 and then enter the table name and press maintain..,
Give the authorization group if necessary and give the functiongroup and then select maintenance type as one step and give the screen numbers as system specified..
Then create,,,
Then u will able to see the maintenance view for the table in which u can able to insert and delete the table values...
SM31 and SM30 can also be used to display and update table data. SM31 is an older version of SM30 that has less functionality. The input field on the first screen of SM30 is long enough to accommodate any table name; on SM31 it is only five characters long. Before you can use either one, a special program called a standard maintenance dialog must be generated for the table you want to display.
A standard maintenance dialog is an ABAP/4 program that you generate. When you invoke SM31 or SM30, the data browser will automatically find and invoke that generated program. It provides a more complex interface and more functionality than SE16. For more information on maintenance dialogs and the procedure to create them, consult the R/3 Library help.
SM31 is called Standard Table Maintainance Tool & SM30 is called as Enhanced Table Maintainance.
Both SM30 and SM31 use the same program SAPMSVMA. But not all Table can use the Transaction SM30.
SM30 can be use to Call View Maintenance
SM31 can Call View Maintenance Like SM30.
Thats why it is maintained separately in SAP R/3.

Hello,
One step maintainance provides you a control table to fill in the data for your maintainance once you run SM30..when you click on "new entries" the same control table with new empty fields are displayed ready to take your input
Two step maintainance as the name suggests provide two different screens in SM30 first screen consists of the control table as in 1 step but when you click for "new entries" a new second screen is displayed
second screen consists of the screen to fill data for a single record at a time(not a control table). After saving here and click 'BACK <-' takes you to the control table which was coming for single step maintainance...here i believe you can edit once again...
Reward if helpful,

Hi,
SM31-is the transaction for standard table maintainence.
SM30-is the transaction for Extended table maintainence.
Actually table maintainence is used to maintain and load data and provide authorizations for the people who are supposed to load the data.It is also useful to delete data as well.
SM31 is used for Table maintainence but
SM30 is used for maintaining the views.
