Regarding Mara table

Hi ,

In the material master table MARA table , You cannot find the field Maktx i.e material description.But when you look at the contents of it, you will find the maktx field at the bottom for each material code.How this is possible ?

SE16 selects the correct view, by looking in table dd08l. It takes the table you've entered, and looks for a record in DD08L which has a checktable of that table name (MARA), and FRKART = 'TEXT'.

hi check the table makt..field maktx..

it is having the view...so it is dispalying the description even though it is not in the table

I know tht maktx is not found in mara but in makt . But checking with the contents of the table , iam able to see the description for tht material . But when i search the field it is not present in the table . May be tht iam clear this time. iam talking about the database table and not the views.

Yes - this is because SE16 performs some logic to find what the text table is (MAKT in this case), and displays it.

Hi,

To get the discription of the perticular material you have to check this detials to MAKT table and the field name is MAKTX.

MAKTX is the field of table MAKT which is a text table of MARA. So maktx is appearing in the output of MARA also.

when u see the standard program for that table /1BCDWB/DBMARA ,inside the program he was calling a function module DDIF_FIELDINFO_GET in which he is passing MAKT table and retriving the data in the output.

Hi Kumar,

MAKT is the text table for MARA. U can find the maktx over there.

Main purpose of having text tabel is to maintain the description in different languages.

How to find the text table. Open mara table in se11/se12. Menu=>Goto=>Text table. U will go to MAKT table.

So when u execute MARA table description will be picked from MAKT based on logon language.

sap maintain the text table as makt with in the mara table.

menu->goto->text table
