Reading Barcode

Hi,

I have a requirment and I don't know where to look for it.

We have a program which prints cheque form. This form has a barcode which is also a cheque number.

Now, the requirement I have is that the user will scan this form, a custom program should read this barcode which is also a cheque number and generate the details for that check. Like Invoice, GR and PO details.

Can anyone help me how to read the barcode in a program?
