After defining the element in the layout go back to the main screen(Attributes Screen). Now select the tab <b>Element List</b>. Under that, select the sub-tab <b>Special Attributes</b>. Now for the column <b>Input</b> there will be a drop down list. There select the option as <b>Required</b>.

In the screen layout, double click on the input field. this will bring up the attributes screen for the field & there you have an option for making the field 'Required', its a checkbox....
Go to the Screen layout, double click on the field
it will display the attributes window, in that you can see the button program, before inputfield one drop down will be there select obligatorisch(mussfeld).
