I've just seen this article on integrating Lean Startup and Design Thinking, improving both to give "Lean Design Thinking."

Thoughts?

Paul

Dear Paul,

actually we're doing this already with an approach called Business Model Development and Innovation (BMDI) where we iterate a business model canvas incl. business model design, business model evaluation with minimal viable products as well as calculating concrete business cases.

The approach is applied in Development to complement the viability concerns of customer-centered product innovation. We also offer BMDI coaching to partners, startups and student teams within the SAP ecosystem. We constantly update the content and formats based on feedback.

Feel free to contact me or Uli Eisert if you have any further questions...

Kind regards

Tobias.

Hi Paul,

Great question - in my opinion though it's much ado about nothing.

For me, Lean is but one approach that can be leveraged within the Design Thinking methodology when its appropriate or desired. Design Thinking is so extremely adaptable with different tools and techniques in and of itself. I just don't see anything being added that shouldn't be a part of a proper DT project already. Now, how often we're seeing proper DT application - now there's a potentially contentious discussion...

Cheers,

Jeremy
