Implementing OSS Note temporarily

Hi Experts,

I have to implement OSS Note 819197. The documentation of the note mentions that it can be implemented temporarily or permanently.

I would like to know the difference between these two modes of implementation.

Does implementing temporarily mean that I implement the note and then revert the implementation? Or is there a different procedure of implementing this note when implementing temporarily?

Please advise.

Regards,

Saurabh

Hi,

SAP gives solution like this only in some rare cases, for example if want to alter all your old records, SAP gives such notes temporarily so that after applying this note the old records are all corrected and later on you can remove that note and add one more note soo that there wont be incorrect entries. Hope I am clear..

Cheers...

Hi Santosh,

Thanks for your reply.

What i understand from your reply is that I would need to <b>unimplement</b> my note once the old records are corrected. Is this right?

Also what do you mean by 'add one more note so that there wont be incorrect entries'?

Yes ur first understanding is right, u need to overwrite the temporary note by a permanent note, thats all, You are not unimplementing anything but you r overwriting that code.

How do I find out a permanent note to overwrite the previous(temporary) note?

As mentioned, the first note - 819197 can also be implemented permanently. Should I not then just implement this note permanently in the first place?

Hi Saurabh,

If u have to make the changes visible henceforth then go for permanent method.

Hi All,

My basic question is - what is the difference in implementation of an OSS Note temporarily and permanently? Is the method of implementing in both scenarios same or different?

Hello Saurabh,

When the note say it can be temporarily applied means that u can apply the note which will resolve your current problem and bring u to a stable state. However the note is not responsible for rectifing the error which brought u to this error state. For that u will have to search more in OSS or check the related notes section.

As for the temporary state indicates u can revert back the note applied and it will not impact the system.

As far as I understand yes it is the same method. You apply the note to the program, do the rectification and once done u can revert back to the original code.
